"Success does not lie in results but in effort; being the best is not as important as doing the best" is the motto of Ms Divya Tusnial, who was crowned Insurance Agent of the Year at the 2nd Asia Trusted Life Agents & Advisers Awards 2017.
The judges selected Ms Tusnial from Tata AIA Life Insurance Company Limited in India as the winner for the loyalty she shows to her clients, her resolute determination to succeed and to serve, and for the tireless way she closes the protection gap one client at a time.
“I really wanted this Award because I want to be a role model for my two daughters,” she said in her acceptance speech.
And what a role model she is. Ms Tusnial was a housewife from a traditional Indian family. In her first year of marriage, she lost her father-in-law. The loss was not only an emotional one but also a financial one. As her father-in-law did not have any insurance, she realised the importance of insurance. Following the crisis, she joined the insurance industry to recover the lost assets to her family and to reach out to as many people as possible to protect as many homes as possible by helping them to understand the importance of insurance.
TOT qualification in three months
Since embarking on the journey in 2009, her list of accolades includes qualifying for MDRT in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015, Court of the Table (COT) in 2014, and TOT in 2016 and 2017. Impressively, she has already qualified for TOT in 2018 in the short span of three months as at 31 March 2017. She is also a LIMRA International Quality Award winner for her excellent record of maintaining inforce business.
Having achieved success over the years, she is focussed on giving back to the insurance society. As the MDRT brand ambassador for Tata AIA Life Insurance Company focused on increasing MDRT qualifiers in the organisation, the number of MDRT qualifiers doubled from 76 to 153 in the 2017 calendar year. Through “Hello Divya”, she also conducts sessions for advisers in which she inspires aspirants to qualify for MDRT.
As successful as she is, Ms Tusnial continues to display her willingness for untiring legwork and an indomitable passion. She still makes it a point to meet an average of three clients a day and integrates technology into the processes of financial health review of her clients. She continues to win over customers with daily cold calls and stays in touch with her clients and their family members by calling them personally during significant milestones.
Moving forward, we can expect more from this year’s Insurance Agent of the Year as she believes that the biggest competition is with herself and she firmly believes in setting high performance benchmarks.
