Fourteen winners from seven markets were honoured at the 5th Asia Trusted Life Agents & Advisers Awards presentation ceremony on 27 July 2020. The deserving winners edged out over 250 nominations from 12 markets. Now in its fifth year, the awards were held online this year given the pandemic situation.
Winners emerged from Hong Kong, Indonesia, India, Malaysia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, and Vietnam and came from leading insurance companies including AIA, Allianz, Prudential, Softlogic and Sun Life.
This year’s awards saw a few firsts:
Ms Divya Tusnial of TATA AIA Life Insurance, India, was crowned winner for Insurance Agent of the Year. It is the first time in the prestigious Asia Trusted Life Agents & Advisers Awards history that a three-time winner record has emerged. She also won Insurance Agent of the Year in 2017 and Inspirational Agent of the Year in 2018.
Mr Lahiru Maduranga of Softlogic Life Insurance PLC became the first winner from Sri Lanka when he was recognised as Rookie Insurance Agency Leader of the Year.
This year also saw the introduction of a new category, Digital Transformation of the Year, which was won by Asuransi Allianz Life Indonesia.
The awards offers a neutral regional platform to recognise the best in life insurance agency and advisory across Asia. The esteemed judging panel was made up of some 30 CEOs, senior executives, heads of associations and industry experts, and the rigorous and transparent two-stage judging process was audited by EY.
In the first stage, remote judging was conducted to select the finalists. In the second stage, this year judges gathered to deliberate and to arrive at the winners through a secret ballot via a virtual meeting.
Awards patron HSBC Group chairman Mark Tucker said, “I am delighted to see the awards continue to go from strength to strength in their fifth year, in spite of the many challenges we are facing as a result of COVID-19. I would like to congratulate all of the finalists for their outstanding contributions. I would also like to thank the distinguished panel of judges for picking the winners amongst them. Finally, I would like to thank Asia Insurance Review and Asia Advisers Network for helping us to celebrate the best of agency and advisory, and the valuable contribution they make to our industry.”
Asia Insurance Review editor-in-chief Sivam Subramaniam said, “This is a milestone with it being the 5th anniversary in saluting agents and advisers. We are grateful for the help along the way given by industry leaders, including our patron Mark Tucker, strategic partner AIA and independent auditor EY and, of course, our panel of independent judges. We salute all the finalists and congratulate the winners. You now have the burden to lift the industry higher.”
