Great Eastern’s Group CEO Mr Khor Hock Seng
Presented as an online webcast to its field force of financial representatives, Group Chief Executive Officer Khor Hock Seng opened the event at VOLTAGE – Great Eastern’s new career discovery space – by recognising the tremendous resilience of its agency network in overcoming the unprecedented challenges posed by COVID-19 especially in the last quarter, and encouraged all to continue with the digital adoption and momentum critical for success in the new future.
Reiterating the need for all reps to be nimble and adaptive to customers’ needs, supported by continued strong partnership with Great Eastern, Mr Khor spoke passionately about achieving higher goals together. He further pointed to the company’s upcoming aim to enhance digital engagement with customers and financial reps. “Going forward, we plan to have a fully digital-enabled agency. We need to continue investing in a full set of digital capabilities for all of you, so that your interaction with customers is seamless,” he said.
He noted that while the COVID-19 situation presented new challenges and opportunities, it is also a great reminder for all to focus on the Customer First. “In this ‘New Future’ (not just the New Norm), it’s about putting ourselves in the winning position… we need to continue to do right by the customer with customer centricity, take the right actions… and think big,” he urged.
Ben Tan, MD, Regional Agency, Financial Advisory & Bancassurance, highlighted the continued importance of adapting to changes and new thinking to emerge stronger. “We are (already) in the next paradigm today. Let's be steadfast on our journey to greatness. If we try new things and embrace new ways of working and thinking, we will emerge stronger and more resilient,” he said.
Great Eastern’s first-to-market launch of its remote sales advisory even before Singapore went into Circuit Breaker mode, and customer adoption of its digital platforms early in the year, have all added greatly to the company’s digital agility and speed to empower its financial representatives to deliver continued quality service to customers, noted Mr Tan.
Going forward, he strongly encouraged financial representatives to up their digital game, take ownership of their own continuous learning to tap on the training programmes and webinars put together by the company, to emerge even stronger as Agents of Life.
Colin Chan, MD, Group Marketing, unveiled the brand’s new Live #Lifeproof films (see sidebar story) and elaborated on the brand philosophy of Lifeproofing customers which are strongly supported by the insurer’s timely and relevant protection solutions for the upcoming period. These, he said, would be complemented by benefits incorporated to suit customers’ current needs such as dengue and retrenchment coverage, as well as telehealth services delivered by Doctor Anywhere.
He also elaborated on the company’s recently launched Great Eastern (mobile) App, which brings to life practical solutions. The App provides customers better flexibility to actively manage their investment-linked policies’ fund transactions anywhere on a mobile device – and is a significant boost to Great Eastern’s digital transformation initiatives.
Great Eastern’s mid-year connect session with its financial representatives also featured guest speakers such as newbie Vanessa Lim who shared key learnings starting Day #1 of her work-life in virtual mode. Speaking about her personal experience ‘living and breathing digital’, she shared how she overcame challenges during the Circuit Breaker months, with the support of the company and her mentor leaders to clock in many case successes, resulting in her promotion to Senior Financial Consultant.

Renowned financial advisor and coach, Dr Sanjay Tolani, called for all to embrace the new future as a huge opportunity to build on customer-centricity and engagement, amid ostensible challenges. After all, “Customer needs for a financial representative’s services are still the same, even in the light of COVID-19”.
Patrick Peck, Head, Agency & Financial Advisory, closed Great Eastern’s Mid-Year Boost 2020 by issuing a Resilience Challenge for the second half. In all, 17 awards were presented virtually for numerous categories for the year 2019 such as Top Directors, Top Master Builder and Top Recruiting Directors to recognise the most outstanding among its agency force.

Great Eastern’s new Live #Lifeproof brand campaign went nationwide last month, extending the insurer’s brand promise as The Life Company and focusing on empowering customers to stand ready for all of life’s uncertainties with solutions to safeguard their legacies.
Two film versions showcase the spirit of resilience very relevantly in this time of COVID-19 and are based on a series of poignant questions which people ask online based on adversities or concerns at different stages of their lives.
To complement its Live #Lifeproof mantra to customers, Great Eastern is offering retrenchment benefits to customers who purchase regular premium investment-linked plans from now to 30 September 2020.
Customers who purchase selected regular premium life, personal accident and health insurance plans during the same period, will receive complimentary 12-month Dengue Care, and separately, 15-20% premium savings for selected health and investment-linked insurance plans.
