AIG has announced the appointments of Steven Barnett as Chief Executive Officer of Asia Pacific, General Insurance, and Thomas Lillelund as Chief Executive Officer of Middle East and Africa, General Insurance. Both appointments are effective immediately.

Mr Barnett will report to Lex Baugh, Acting Chief Executive Officer, International General Insurance and Global Chief Underwriting Officer for Casualty and Financial Lines, General Insurance, and will be based in Singapore. His appointment is subject to regulatory approval.
During his nearly 30 years with AIG, Mr Barnett has held a series of leadership roles in Asia, where he served as President and CEO of Korea from 2011 to 2018 and CEO of Thailand from 2003 to 2011. Most recently, he served as CEO of Middle East and Africa since 2018. Mr Barnett succeeds Sachin Shah, who will be leaving the company to pursue other opportunities.

Mr Lillelund will report to Lex Baugh, Acting Chief Executive Officer, International General Insurance, and Global Chief Underwriting Officer for Casualty and Financial Lines, General Insurance.
In addition to his role leading the General Insurance business in the Middle East, Africa, Russia and Israel, Mr Lillelund will continue to serve as Chief Executive Officer of AIG Europe SA with responsibility for Continental Europe and Ireland, a role he has held since 2018. He will be based in both Luxembourg and Dubai.
Mr Lillelund succeeds Steven Barnett in this role. Prior to joining AIG in 2018, Mr Lillelund was Regional Managing Director of Aspen Re’s Asia Pacific region. During his 20-year career, Mr Lillelund has held senior insurance industry roles in Hong Kong, South Africa and the US.
