LinkedIn, a professional network with half a billion members in 200 countries, is an integral platform for insurance advisers looking to connect with and grow their clientele base. If you are new to LinkedIn or seeking to enhance your presence on it, here are some useful tips on professional branding according to Ms Mac Witmer, Relationship Manager of Key Accounts at LinkedIn.
Ms Witmer, who was speaking at an event organised by non-profit group Girls in Tech (GIT), shared:
Add a professional profile photo: LinkedIn profiles with professional head-shots get 14 times more profile views than those without.
Write an attention-grabbing headline: Do not just stop at listing your designation. Explain what it is that you do and show your passion and value. Just like you won’t stop at giving your designation as “Manager” or “Director” without a short description of what you do in face-to-face meetings.
Draft a compelling summary: Focus on career accomplishments and aspirations.
- Start with your passion and who you are as a professional.
- Then share a bit about your journey.
- Finish with what you’re doing today.
Detail your past experience: LinkedIn profiles with past experience listed receive 12 times more profile views than those without.
Grow your network: Start building your network by connecting with existing contacts. Identify the connections you would like to establish and the key areas of expertise that you would like to be known for.
400 potential relationships with each connection
With each connection you make, the total reach of your professional community grows and so do your opportunities. Every connection reflects an average of 400 new people you can get introduced to and begin to build relationships with.
Done tastefully and professionally, there is no reason to run out of prospects and appointments, the lifeblood of every successful insurance adviser.
